AION Water was founded on a single premise: the water filtration industry has been engineering for the contaminants of the past. The regulatory frameworks, the certification standards, the filter designs — all of it was built for a different era.
The Problem We Solve
The Industry Hasn't
Caught Up.
PFAS — per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — entered widespread industrial use in the 1940s. The EPA only began regulating them in April 2024. In the intervening eight decades, an estimated 45% of U.S. tap water became contaminated with compounds that do not break down in the environment or the human body.
Atrazine, one of the most widely used herbicides in American agriculture, has been detected in U.S. drinking water at concentrations 30 times higher than levels that cause endocrine disruption in wildlife. It has been banned in the European Union since 2004. It remains legal in the United States.
Microplastics — a term that didn't exist in scientific literature until 2004 — are now found in 94% of U.S. tap water samples. There are no regulatory limits. There are no certification standards. Most filters were not designed to address them at all.
The water filtration industry's standard playbook was written before these compounds existed. We rewrote it.

Engineer for Real-World Flow
Certifications are granted in laboratories. Water runs through your home at 10–15 gallons per minute. We design every system around actual residential flow rates — not the controlled conditions that make a certification possible.

Address the Contaminants of Now
PFAS entered widespread use in the 1940s. Atrazine was introduced in 1958. Microplastics only entered scientific vocabulary in 2004. The water filtration industry's standard playbook was written before these compounds existed. We rewrote it.

No Partial Credit
A filter that removes 95% of lead is not a lead filter. It is a filter that passes 5% of lead. We engineer for total elimination — not reduction, not mitigation, not 'significant improvement.' The standard is zero.

Transparency Over Marketing
We publish our filter stages, the media inside each stage, the contaminants each stage targets, and the science behind every claim. If a competitor's system cannot tell you what is inside it, that is your answer.
